I am only going to give you a short meaning of each rune should you cast one of them in a spread. Below I have added pictures of possible spreads.

Here follows the meaning in alphabetical order:

Algiz:

(Z or -R: Elk, protection.) Protection, a shield. The protective urge to shelter oneself or others. Defense, warding off of evil, shield, guardian. Connection with the gods, awakening, higher life. It can be used to channel energies appropriately. Follow your instincts. Keep hold of success or maintain a position won or earned. Algiz Reversed: or Merkstave: Hidden danger, consumption by divine forces, loss of divine link. Taboo, warning, turning away, that which repels.

Protection

Try to control your emotions. You may be faced with new challenges and opportunities. Remember that correct action and appropriate behavior are your true protection. Do not try to hide from pain, for it is a pain of advancement.

Reversed

Be considerate about your health, and try not to augment any burden that others may be bearing. Ponder carefully the associations you create. If you feel that you are being used, be responsible for your own position. For only then can you benefit. Whether you flourish or suffer, don’t be too concerned. Winning may not be a possibility, yet you will not lose either. Even in losing, you can win throught learning and progress. Courtesy and patience are virtues of the protective powers of this rune

Ansuz:

(A: The As, ancestral god, i.e. Odin.) A revealing message or insight, communication. Signals, inspiration, enthusiasm, speech, true vision, power of words and naming. Blessings, the taking of advice. Good health, harmony, truth, wisdom. Ansuz Reversed or Merkstave: Misunderstanding, delusion, manipulation by others, boredom. Vanity and grandiloquence. (Odin is a mighty, but duplicitous god. He always has his own agenda.)

Signals

Ansuz is the Messenger Rune, and indication that messages or signals are being received. These messages or signals may mean that change can be expected, such as new life or new pathways. Use caution in new encounters. Explore your life’s foundation with great depth.

Reversed

The lack of clear communication may be at hand. Become more aware of your past history and present situation. A strong sense of wasted effort may be apparent. What is happening now is especially important in relation to your development. It may be time to rid yourself of some old ways and habits.

Berkano:

(B: Berchta, the birch-goddess.) Birth, general fertility, both mental and physical and personal growth, liberation. Regenerative power and light of spring, renewal, promise of new beginnings, new growth. Arousal of desire. A love affair or new birth. The prospering of an enterprise or venture. Berkano Reversed or Merkstave: Family problems and or domestic troubles. Anxiety about someone close to you. Carelessness, abandon, loss of control. Blurring of consciousness, deceit, sterility, stagnation.

Growth

This rune indicates growth. This growth may involve matters of family, of the world in general, or growth of self. You are blooming and maturing, being transformed into a new self. You must first resolve resistance before you can achieve growth. Be clear, patient, and modest.

Reversed

Your growth is impaired at this time. Don’t be discouraged as a result of missed opportunities. Patience is called for. Explore your position in matters that have occurred, as well as your needs and the needs of others. Use as much concern for others as you would for yourself at this time. Try to remove any obstacles that are inhibiting your growth.

(D: Day or dawn.) Breakthrough, awakening, awareness. Daylight clarity as opposed to nighttime uncertainty. A time to plan or embark upon an enterprise. The power of change directed by your own will, transformation. Hope/happiness, the ideal. Security and certainty. Growth and release. Balance point, the place where opposites meet. Dagaz Merkstave (Dagaz cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): A completion, ending, limit, coming full circle. Blindness, hopelessness.

Breakthrough

You are gaining new insight in the course of self-transformation. This self-shift may be drastic. The consequences can be variable and unanticipated. This is a type of change that may permanently alter your life. With much faith, plunge into this change. This final outcome will be a prosperous completion of your path.

Ehwaz:

(E: Horse, two horses.) Transportation. May represent a horse, car, plane, boat or other vehicle. Movement and change for the better. Gradual development and steady progress are indicated. Harmony, teamwork, trust, loyalty. An ideal marriage or partnership. Confirmation beyond doubt the meanings of the runes around it. Ehwaz Reversed or Merkstave: This is not really a negative rune. A change is perhaps craved. Feeling restless or confined in a situation. Reckless haste, disharmony, mistrust, betrayal.

Movement

Ehwaz suggests movement and transition in relation to new life, environment, or spirit. This movement indicates evolution, or improvement in any circumstance, whether it be related to business or concepts and ideas. This progress will develop gradually, but persistently. Look forward to the future with enthusiasm and optimism.

Reversed

There seems to be obstructions in movement. This is a time to be aware of what you are doing, as well as what you are not accomplishing. Do not miss out on any chances at this time. Realize that not all opportunities are acceptable for you. Remember that if something is right for you, you will acquire it.

Eihwaz:

(EI: Yew tree.) Strength, reliability, dependability, trustworthiness. Enlightenment, endurance. Defense, protection. The driving force to acquire, providing motivation and a sense of purpose. Indicates that you have set your sights on a reasonable target and can achieve your goals. An honest man who can be relied upon. Eihwaz Reversed or Merkstave: Confusion, destruction, dissatisfaction, weakness.

Defense

If any obstacles emerge in your path, some hesitation could be beneficial. Don’t be eager to move forward. Patience is of the essence. This is a time for waiting. Though displeasure and inconvenience may be apparent, growth will be received.

Fehu

(F: Domestic cattle, wealth.) Possessions won or earned, earned income, luck. Abundance, financial strength in the present or near future. Sign of hope and plenty, success and happiness. Social success. Energy, foresight, fertility, creation/destruction (becoming). Fehu Reversed or Merkstave: Loss of personal property, esteem, or something that you put in effort to keep. It indicates some sort of failure. Greed, burnout, atrophy, discord. Cowardice, stupidity, dullness, poverty, slavery, bondage.

Possessions

Fehu is the Rune of accomplishments, desires fulfilled, and aspiration. Careful consideration of profit and gain within your life is in order. Take time to realize if it is wealth and possessions that you desire, or self-rule and growth of will. Try to conserve what has previously been fortune. Don’t dissolve yourself with your success. Remember, a virtue of the well-nurtured self is the capability and desire to nourish others.

Reversed

There may be substantial frustrations in your life. Full achievement of your efforts are sometimes incomplete. You need to examine these frustrations and determine what you need to learn from the situation. Doubt is plentiful at this time. Remember that in time, these frustrations and doubts will pass. This is a time to reflect on your true needs in life.

Gebo:

(G: Gift.) Gifts, both in the sense of sacrifice and of generosity, indicating balance. All matters in relation to exchanges, including contracts, personal relationships and partnerships. Gebo Merkstave (Gebo cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): Greed, loneliness, dependence, over-sacrifice. Obligation, toll, privation, bribery.

Partnership

A partnership or union of some kind is currently present in your life. True partnerships can only be achieved by allowing some separateness while being united. Try not to totally dissolve yourself in your partnerships. Allow some space.

Hagalaz:

(H: Hail.) Wrath of nature, destructive, uncontrolled forces, especially the weather, or within the unconscious. Tempering, testing, trial. Controlled crisis, leading to completion, inner harmony. Hagalaz Merkstave (Hagalaz cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): Natural disaster, catastrophe. Stagnation, loss of power. Pain, loss, suffering, hardship, sickness, crisis.

Disruption

This rune deals with disruption, or agitation in relation to circumstances that are beyond your control. Anticipate disturbances. You may encounter an arousal of your senses, a jolt to your reality and beliefs. Disruption may come in many different forms such as failing association, or strategies that go sour. Don’t be discouraged, look within yourself. You have the power to grow even as you face challenge.

Ingwaz or Inguz:

(NG: Ing, the earth god.) Male fertility, gestation, internal growth. Common virtues, common sense, simple strengths, family love, caring, human warmth, the home. Rest stage, a time of relief, of no anxiety. A time when all loose strings are tied and you are free to move in a new direction. Listen to yourself. Ingwaz Merkstave (Ingwaz cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): Impotence, movement without change. Production, toil, labor, work.

Fertility

Now is the time of vast strength, completion, and new beginnings. Obstacles and difficulties can now be clarified and resolved. This Rune may indicate a time of joy, or a new path. You now have the power to accomplish completion and resolution, and this will yield a new beginning. A great relief from tension and doubt will be experienced.

Isa:

(I: Ice.) A challenge or frustration. Psychological blocks to thought or activity, including grievances. Standstill, or a time to turn inward and wait for what is to come, or to seek clarity. This rune reinforces runes around it. Isa Merkstave (Isa cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): Ego-mania, dullness, blindness, dissipation. Treachery, illusion, deceit, betrayal, guile, stealth, ambush, plots.

Standstill

You are frozen in Spirit, Self, and progress in general. You may be oblivious to concerns regarding matters that you are overrun with. Your energies may seem depleted for unknown reasons. Look into yourself to find what you are retaining that is holding you back. When you discover this, you can let go and clarify. Some personal sacrifice may be needed at this time. This is a time for patience, for a reawakening is in store.

Jera:

(J or Y: A year, a good harvest.) The results of earlier efforts are realized. A time of peace and happiness, fruitful season. It can break through stagnancy. Hopes and expectations of peace and prosperity. The promise of success earned. Life cycle, cyclical pattern of the universe. Everything changes, in its own time. Jera Merkstave (Jera cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): Sudden setback, reversals. A major change, repetition, bad timing, poverty, conflict.

Harvest

This Rune indicates favorable results in your ventures. These may not be quick to arrive, however. Similar to harvest, there is a full cycle to be completed before the benefits are reaped. Patience is fundamental in reaching the full cycle in your path.

Kenaz or Kano:

(K: Beacon or torch.) Vision, revelation, knowledge, creativity, inspiration, technical ability. Vital fire of life, harnessed power, fire of transformation and regeneration. Power to create your own reality, the power of light. Open to new strength, energy, and power now. Passion, sexual love. Kenaz Reversed or Merkstave: Disease, breakup, instability, lack of creativity. Nakedness, exposure, loss of illusion and false hope.

Opening

Kano, the Rune of Opening, suggests refreshed clarity and opening. Darkness in your life is being eliminated. You have the ability to see more of the light. This in turn will help you better visualize what is nonessential in your path. A better understanding is at hand. You are centered amid the forces of harmony.

Reversed

This rune indicated that the light of some matter or relationship may be turning to darkness. Possible a relationship of some kind may be ending. This relationship is no longer needed in your life. This is a sign that your pathway is changing, and not taking notice of this may result in a missed opening or chance. This is a time to rid yourself of some old ways and habits in the wait for a new beginning. Remember that this new beginning may take some time. Be patient

Laguz:

(L: Water, or a leek.) Flow, water, sea, a fertility source, the healing power of renewal. Life energy and organic growth. Imagination and psychic matters. Dreams, fantasies, mysteries, the unknown, the hidden, the deep, the underworld. Success in travel or acquisition, but with the possibility of loss. Laguz Reversed or Merkstave: An indication of a period of confusion in your life. You may be making wrong decisions and poor judgements. Lack of creativity and feelings of being in a rut. Fear, circular motion, avoidance, withering. Madness, obsession, despair, perversity, sickness, suicide.

Flow

Powers unnoticed are at work. These are powers containing nurturing qualities. Try exploring life without trying to reach a full understanding. This is a time to reorganize and cleanse, as well as to prepare for self-transition. Be in tune with yourself.

Reversed

Try not to over-extend yourself on any tasks or accomplishments at this time. Realize your strengths and weaknesses, and do not overstep them. You may be experiencing a lack of wisdom, and/or instinct at the present time. Look within and try to balance yourself.

Mannaz:

(M: Man, mankind.) The Self; the individual or the human race. Your attitude toward others and their attitudes towards you. Friends and enemies, social order. Intelligence, forethought, create, skill, ability. Divine structure, intelligence, awareness. Expect to receive some sort of aid or cooperation now. Mannaz Reversed or Merkstave: Depression, mortality, blindness, self-delusion. Cunning, slyness, manipulation, craftiness, calculation. Expect no help now.

Self

Focus should be on the self. Being clear, and open to change is important. You need to be right with yourself before you can be right with others. No matter how great your accomplishments may be, remain open and devoted, yet be moderate inorder to obtain true direction in your life.

Reversed

If any blockages or delays are present now, they come from within yourself. Look inside yourself rather than others at this time. Be clear and reconsider matters. The enemy may be yourself. You may need to break or change habits and trends of your past.

Nauthiz:

(N: Need.) Delays, restriction. Resistance leading to strength, innovation, need-fire (self-reliance). Distress, confusion, conflict, and the power of will to overcome them. Endurance, survival, determination. A time to exercise patience. Recognition of one's fate. Major self-initiated change. Face your fears. Nauthiz Reversed or Merkstave: Constraint of freedom, distress, toil, drudgery, laxity. Necessity, extremity, want, deprivation, starvation, need, poverty, emotional hunger.

Constraint

Nauthiz represents obstacles created by ourselves as well as obstacles encountered around us. Restraint, or control is needed at this time. Consider any plans carefully. Look at any troubles or setbacks, past and present in your life as teachers, or guides. Try to restore harmony and balance.

Reversed

Nauthiz, being part of the Cycle of Initiation is a grand teacher disguised as the conveyer of pain and limitation. Only at the greatest darkness can we see the light from within and realize the power of the Self. Cleansing is in order to strengthen character. Maintain your temper and be modest during challenging times.

Blank Rune or Odin:

There is no historical support for a "Blank Rune" in runic divination. It was invented in the 1980's. It should not be used in a rune casting. If you bought a rune set with a blank piece, save it in case you lose another rune piece, but don't use it in rune casting.

The Unknown

Odin, the blank Rune has a direct relationship with fate and destiny. The force of the Unknown is stirring, yet many possibilities exist. This rune may indicate an ending relevant to some element of your life. Apprehensions or fears may be brought into the light for insight. The Unknown brings hints of total awareness of Self. Remember that beginnings and endings both embody the Unknown. Drawing this rune represents a challenge of confidence, will and faith. A transformation of Self is in progress. The best action may be to engulf yourself into the Unknown with faith.

Othala or Othila:

(O: Ancestral property.) Inherited property or possessions, a house, a home. What is truly important to one. Group order, group prosperity. Land of birth, spiritual heritage, experience and fundamental values. Aid in spiritual and physical journeys. Source of safety, increase and abundance. Othala Reversed or Merkstave: Lack of customary order, totalitarianism, slavery, poverty, homelessness. Bad karma, prejudice, clannishness, provincialism. What a man is bound to.

Separation

This is a time for separation. Old pathways need to be discarded. Submission and possibly retreat are appropriate here Othila is the Rune of benefit, although the benefits you receive may be acquired from something you must give up. The separation suggested here will allow you to truly be yourself.

Reversed

The time is ripe for stripping away old conditioning. Consider what is right for you as well as what will be of benefit to others. Radical change from old ways may be in order. Be clear with yourself. Positive flow is needed at this time.

Perthro or Perth:

(P: Lot cup, vagina.) Uncertain meaning, a secret matter, a mystery, hidden things and occult abilities. Initiation, knowledge of one's destiny, knowledge of future matters, determining the future or your path. Pertaining to things feminine, feminine mysteries including female fertility, and vagina. Good lot, fellowship and joy. Evolutionary change. Perthro Reversed or Merkstave: Addiction, stagnation, loneliness, malaise.

Initiation

The forces of change are working here. Changes within are taking place. Expect the unexpected, surprises may arise. Let go of everything, without exceptions, for renewal of the Spirit will be the outcome.

Reversed

Don’t expect too much. Repeating the old can cause you to suffer. Try not to focus on the past, for you will ignore the true you. Your path may be obstructed, yet you have a choice. Recognize this as a challenge to some matter that you are currently experiencing. Patience and faith are needed.

(R: Wagon or chariot.) Travel, both in physical terms and those of lifestyle direction. A journey, vacation, relocation, evolution, change of place or setting. Seeing a larger perspective. Seeing the right move for you to make and deciding upon it. Personal rhythm, world rhythm, dance of life. Raidho Reversed or Merkstave: Crisis, rigidity, stasis, injustice, irrationality. Disruption, dislocation, demotion, delusion, possibly a death.

Journey

This is a time to try to gain balance in your life. Raido is an indication of a journey, and the feeling of accomplishment that is received upon reaching the end of the journey. Deeply consider what the correct movement or response should be. Be comfortable with waiting while trying to remove any hindrances. This is a journey of change, healing, and becoming one with your self, and should not be shared with others. You will feel a release fro the weight of past obstacles.

Reversed

Be especially careful in matters of personal associations. You are inclined to experience disruption rather than harmony at this time. It may take some exertion in order to maintain your spirit. Foresee obstacles and setbacks as detours to opportunities. Examine closely your requirements for development and growth.

Sowilo Merkstave (Sowilo cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): False goals, bad counsel, false success, gullibility, loss of goals. Destruction, retribution, justice, casting down of vanity. Wrath of god.

Wholeness

This rune represents Wholeness, something that is needed by all. Wholeness provides tha stimulus for Self awareness. Sowelu brings to light a hint of the pathway you need to ensue for clearness of Self. In reality you already are who you are attempting to be. Be aware of your nature and develop it further. Use discretion in demanding matters. Sometimes withdrawal is the best action for keeping strength. This is a time for total rejuvenation of Self. Look invard for harmony and balance.

Tiwaz or Teiwaz:

(T: Tyr, the sky god.) Honor, justice, leadership and authority. Analysis, rationality. Knowing where one's true strengths lie. Willingness to self-sacrifice. Victory and success in any competition or in legal matters. Tiwaz Reversed or Merkstave: One's energy and creative flow are blocked. Mental paralysis, over-analysis, over-sacrifice, injustice, imbalance. Strife, war, conflict, failure in competition. Dwindling passion, difficulties in communication, and possibly separation.

Warrior

You may be at battle with yourself. This is the time to throw out irrelevant matters. Patience is important now. Look inside yourself in order to explore the needs of your own nature. Draw from your deepest resources. A remodeling of your self is at hand. Concerning an association or relationship, this rune indicates that this bond is favorable. Be strong in patience and determination.

Reversed

Try not to be hasty in your actions. Any associations you are involved in may be short-lived. Realize that these relationships have reached a full cycle and have served their purpose. Carefully consider your ideas about any matters at this time. Look within for the answers instead of others.

Gateway

This rune announces the fact that you need to evaluate You, both within and outside yourself. Hidden thoughts and feelings must be revealed and explored in order to make the correct movement or response. Make decisions with leisure, don’t rush through them. Forces of transition are present. Dissolving obstacles of the past will renew Spirit and Power. It is a time to give up the past and proceed through the “Gateway”

Reversed

Your growth is swift at this time. Along with this rapid growth, is necessary that you take time to review old ways in order to harmonized with the fresh development. If you are encountering obstacles, keep your disposition and goals clear. Try not to think about any agony you are bearing. Being quick in reasoning will only complicate matters at this time. Don’t overstep your boundaries. Be aware of your limitations.

(U: Auroch, a wild ox.) Physical strength and speed, untamed potential. A time of great energy and health. Freedom, energy, action, courage, strength, tenacity, understanding, wisdom. Sudden or unexpected changes (usually for the better). Sexual desire, masculine potency. The shaping of power and pattern, formulation of the self. Uruz Reversed or Merkstave: Weakness, obsession, misdirected force, domination by others. Sickness, inconsistency, ignorance. Lust, brutality, rashness, callousness, violence.

Strength

Ending the old and starting new beginnings is suggested by Uruz, the Rune of strength. Change may be dark and difficult to achieve and opportunities may appear as losses, but this change will be for the better. Reflect upon your past to gain new strength and perspective.

Reversed

Failure in taking advantage of the moment is a possibility. It may appear that your own strength is being used against yourself. Now is the time to study aspects of your Self. Remember that everything cycles from beginning, to middle, to ending. This cycle is followed by a new beginning. Don’t hold back from the passage into the darkness, for a rebirth will arise from this journey.

(W or V: Joy.) Joy, comfort, pleasure. Fellowship, harmony, prosperity. Ecstasy, glory, spiritual reward, but also the possibility of going "over the top". If restrained, the meaning is general success and recognition of worth. Wunjo Reversed or Merkstave: Stultification, sorrow, strife, alienation. Delirium, intoxication, possession by higher forces, impractical enthusiasm. Raging frenzy, berzerker.Joy

The time of struggle has ended. A new sense of well-being is present. Joy and energy are abundant. Knowledge has been transformed into understanding. You are clear with your Self.

Reversed

Things are gradual in reaching fulfillment. A strenuous passage may be at hand. Use consideration and forethought. Everything is a challenge as seen in its true light. Remember that you will not fall short.
