Ceremonial Magic

Earth and the other Greek classical elements were incorporated into the Golden Dawn system despite being considered obsolete by modern science. Zelator (1=10) is the elemental grade attributed to earth; this grade is also attributed to the Qabalistic sphere Malkuth. The elemental weapon of earth is the Pentacle.[4] Each of the elements has several associated spiritual beings. The archangel of earth is Uriel, the angel is Phorlakh, the ruler is Kerub, the king is Ghob, and the earth elementals (following Paracelsus) are called gnomes. Earth is considered to be passive; it is represented by the symbol for Taurus, and it is referred to the lower left point of the pentagram in the Supreme Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram. Many of these associations have since spread throughout the occult community.

Wicca

In Wiccaearth is associated with the North (or East in some variations), Winter, and the color brown (or green in some variations) on the physical plane. It is sometimes represented by its Hindu tattva (a yellow square), or by a downward pointing triangle with a horizontal line through it, and may be symbolized by the following: percussion instrumentsanimal furcoins, a pentaclemilk, a heartbeatjewelrybones, or a staffEarth represents strength, abundance, stability and femininity. In rituals, earth is represented by burying objects in the ground, herbalism, and carving images out of wood or stone.

The manifestations of the earth element are found in plantstreesmountainsforestscaves and gardens. The stagboarbullsowbear and snake are also thought to personify the element, as are all burrowing animals, such as the mole or rabbit. The astral creatures of earth, known as elementals, are the Satyr/Faun,Gnome/Goblin, and Sylvestre/DryadEarth’s place on the pentagram is the lower left point.

Astrological Personalities

People born under the astrological signs of TaurusCapricorn and Virgo are thought to have dominant earth personalities. Earth personalities tend to be calm, practical, pragmatic, responsible and cautious; however, they can also be stubborn, intolerant and inflexible.

Magical Element Air: The Beginning of Manifestation
One of the basic principles that any apprentice magician or shaman learns is that almost everything in this Universe is made up of some combination of the four magical elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth. The premise is that if you can understand the four elements directly, then you can understand anything in the Universe.

The apprentice also learns that everything that is physical and manifest started out as a mere thought in someone's mind-or, in this case, as the element Air. Air is at the beginning of all creation, so if you want to create anything, you have to start with Air. Air is associated with the East and also with elemental beings called sylphs.

The element Air governs:

Seeing, breathing, speaking, hearing, planning, thinking, believing, memorizing, communicating, learning, teaching, information, ideas, wisdom, understanding, worry, sensation, awareness, opinions, data, memory, mind.

What does this mean to you? It means that if you want to affect any of these areas in your life, you need to work with the element Air. Air is the perfect place for a beginning magician to start learning. As an element, Air is powerful, but not dangerous. There are three colors associated with Air:

Clear: breathing, physical reactions, physical sensations, seeing
White: mental processes, thinking, planning, communicating
Sky Blue: spiritual enlightenment, wisdom, understanding

So how can you use Air to affect and improve your daily life? Here's a simple way to begin. Through experience and observation, we know that the color White affects the mental processes. If you have either too little or too much White in your elemental balance, you won't be able to think, learn or recall well. If you have difficulty in any of these areas (or if you really need to cram for a test and can't seem to study), check how much White is in your environment and in your clothing. If you see a lot of White, change your clothes or change your location. Move to an area with more Sky Blue or even Sun Yellow. If you are surrounded by very little White, put on some White clothes or move into a room that has White walls. Either way, you should notice a shift in the speed and clarity of your mental processes!

Magical Element Water: The Passion and Flow of Manifestation
The Water element is the element where manifestations really pick up speed and flow. Water is the element of emotion, passion, empathy, flow and feelings. To truly manifest anything, or if you want to speed up your manifestation, you have to get into the Water element.

Water is associated with the direction West, the direction of emotions and Spirit (since emotions are the "language of Spirit").  Water elementals are called undines or ondines, and like to play in the ponds, springs and pools. Like sylphs, which are the air elementals, undines are playful creatures who enjoy brushing up against you in the water.

The element Water corresponds specifically to:

...emotions, feelings, intuition, compassion, empathy, sympathy, knowing, devotion, quest, aspiration, intention, appreciation, integrity, harmony, beauty, balance, serenity, fluidity, grief, apathy, joy, love.

If you are facing any sort of life problem in any of these areas, you need to work with the magical element Water. The Water element has three major colors, of which only one (Water Blue) is safe for everyone to work with:
There are three colors associated with Water, of which only one (Water Blue) is safe for everyone to work with:

Water Blue: Physical water, hydration, used for healing
Deep Blue: Mental or emotional water
Blue Black: Spiritual water, usually associated with "buried unconscious" issues

Do not use Deep Blue or Blue Black unless you are a trained magician-otherwise you might create endless depression or regression to past life events!

Water can be a highly useful element to work with in solving everyday problems. For instance, if you've had a highly stressful day or you have pain in your body, you can use the Water element to literally wash your pain away. Just stand in the shower and push all your pain, tension, anxiety and strain to the outside of your body and see the water carrying it all down the drain. Adjust the water temperature so it's fairly neutral, not to hot and not too cold. Water carries Fire energy, and since most forms of pain and tension are of the Fire element, the shower is a perfect place to get rid of it. This exercise uses Water's natural flow. It may take 2-5 minutes to fully dissipate all the excess Fire energy, so be patient. If you use this exercise on a regular basis, you'll notice that you stop manifesting the same levels of pain and tension in your life. The shower exercise can literally readjust what is "normal" in your life in terms of excess Fire energy.

On a more spiritual level, you can use Water to increase the flow of your manifestations. If you want to manifest something and it's not happening (or not happening fast enough), spend a few minutes each day feeling as if the manifestation has already occurred. How would you feel if what you wanted were to show up right now? If you can spend some quality time in that positive, delighted feeling of already having what you want, your manifestation will come to you faster than you can imagine. Good luck and have fun!

Magical Element Fire: The Action and Will of Manifestation
Fire is the action-oriented part of the creation sequence that is also associated with will, personal power and creativity. Once you've developed the idea of what you want to create (and done the planning part) in the Air element, it's time to move into Fire, where you take action and endeavor to bring your creation into being.

Fire is associated with the direction South, which is also the direction in which we perform all major spellwork and creation. Fire elementals are called salamanders and reside in campfires, woodstoves or anywhere there is a fire.

Specifically, Fire corresponds to:

.energy, power, will, desire, anger, pain, motivation, radiance, passion, initiative, aggression, limitation, endeavor, activity, creative, willingness, urge, inspired, excitable, courage, bravado, compulsion, fanaticism, frustration, resentment, rage, freedom..

If you want to affect any of these areas in your life, then you need to work with Fire. Unlike Air, which has only three colors, Fire has six major colors:

Sun Yellow - Spirit fire, creativity, radiance
     Yellow-Orange - Motivation, excitability, activity
Red-Orange - Anger, pain, fever, aggression, drive
Bright-Red - Courage, bravado, will, endeavor
     Deep Red - Passion, flow
Electric-Blue - All bands, initiating force on galactic or universal levels

As with the element Air, you can use the element Fire to adjust various aspects of your life. For instance, if you consistently wake up with the "Monday morning blues," try adding Sun Yellow to your environment. For instance, you could start dressing in Sun Yellow, burn a Sun Yellow candle or put a Sun Yellow spread on your bed.

All of these sources of Sun Yellow will nourish and feed your spirit, increasing your Spirit vitality and chasing away feelings of gloom and doom. Sun Yellow also feed any "hole in the soul" feelings you might have (and which you might otherwise try to fill with food, sleep or other numbing pleasures). Sun Yellow is literally a spiritual "jump start". Give it a try!

blank Sense: Hearing.
blank Plant: Mistletoe.
blank Tree: The flowering almond.
