Ritual/Celebration

 This is a example of a ritual/celebration.

This is my example.

Notes:

*Note that this is one ritual of many.  Each celebration, each magical act, each event has its own format with its own elements.

*And as we progress we change and so does our rituals - the format, the shape, the words. the invocations, the honouring and our prayers change. So this is not the only and final ritual I use.

*As we do not have clear cut examples, we borrow from those that went before us in the ancient times, look upon the Sacred texts of Ancient Egypt and we learn from those that worship with us in this modern day and age.

*We start out with what was written by others until we formulate our own ritual style which we feel comfortable with.

*Each one of us with time, formulate our own rituals and the parts that take place during the ritual.

*This ritual is set up with notes, remarks and other small things that I found helpful in my learning stages (and still each time I perform a ritual I chance because I am still a learner for life).

*You can skip the whole celemony, by only invoking the deity you want to work with in your ritual section (Example: If your aim is only to do magic you can call only on Isis of Thoth or if you want to work on tarot you can open your circle and altar and invoke your deity and do the divination and then close all again.)

*May the grace of our beloved Divine be with us in this learning process and may Thoth scribe into our hearts the knowledge and wisdom we need to complete what you are learning.

*Divine can mean: Gods, Goddesses, Deities, Netjeru, Neteru, etc

......................................

 Pre-arrangments

Prepare the tools that you will need during the ritual

Four candles for the four quarters (This is open to your liking and celebration)

Yellow for air                 – east

red for fire                    – south

blue for water                – west

green or black for earth – north

Altar:

Two candles for the altar or shrine- normally white on the sides of the Deity you are honouring.

Or also candles in the colour of the Deity you are invoking and working with

Or also the colour candles you work with in a specific spell.

Shrine/altar

Should be facing east to Egypt if you can

Image of the Neteru

The deity/deities you wish to work with in either picture or statue format

Ritual items

1.  An ritual Ankh wand (Egyptian celebration do not really use a dagger or sword)

2. Ceremonial mace

3. Apotropaic wand.

4. Was sceptre

Sistrum

This is a musical instrument or use any instrument that sound like a rattle snake

Salt or natron

You can also use baking soda, baking powder, washing soda

Natron is made with 1 unit salt and 1 unit soda bicarbonate.  Mix ingrediants, put in a pot and cover with water (not a lot of water).  Stir mixture constantly until cooked nearly dry.  Throw out on cake rack and then bake in oven until dry.

Water

Water is the symbol of Nuit of creation.  Mix a little salt or natron in the water to make it sacred.

Materials to dress the deities

white  - to safeguard the deity from its enemies

blue – to hide their face

green – for bodily health

red – for protection

Spells and divination material

It is good if you can write your spells, invocations before the time.  Also get your divination material and all material needed for the divination act and place it before the altar. Once you created your safe and secure area, it is a hassle to go out and search for items you need.

Mat or bricks:

Have a small mat before the altar where you can kneel on or sit on.  Ancient Egyptians also sat on bricks – a break from the ground symbolizing to be in the air close to the Divine.

......................................

Before performing a ritual

**The space should be swept with a special broom (or vacuumed) and then sprinkled with salt water.

**Lighting should be by candles or oil lamps only.

**Preferably no modern technology (If you have the space I have where everything is squashed into a cubic, then I think we will be forgiven for this mishap)

** Sent the area with incense

**Take a cleansing and sacred bath with blessed herbs and natron and then dress accordingly - It can be a white (cotten) robe if it is available or a piece of clothing set out for ritual work. (I feel however that the gods will except you just as you are no matter what you have on if you come before them with a pure heart.)

**You need to make sure your temple space is purified and properly set up first.  The old Egyptians threw sand on the floor of their temples to purify it.  We can use salt or natron in the place of sand.

......................................

Purification of temple or sacred space

On entering the room you should begin by reciting appropriate words for entering the temple:

"Hu is in my mouth, Sia is in my heart: my speech is the shrine of Maat."

Stand in the middle of the area you want to purify.

With your Ankh wand you make a clockwise swoop around the room area pointing the wand into the room area saying:

(While doing this you must believe that all evil and negativity disappear and that goodness and the grace of the Netjeru/gods/goddesses/deities will be in this space)

In the name of the Great Divine and in the name of the great god/goddess  _________

I invoke the spirits who dwell in this place

Look with favour on the ritual I am about to perform

This place is sacred

Home to those that dwell in the house of my Altar

Be pleasant or suffer the displeasure of the great Gods.

I invite you to join me in my ritual I am about to do in the names of the great Gods.

Now take some salt /natron and sprinkle in on the floor saying:

I spread this salt of our earth blessed from Geb

Upon the ground to set the boundaries

Of this Sacred Space

No evil may cross my mark.

Now take some sacred water and sprinkle it on the floor and around the altar and say:

I spread this water from the blessed Nuit

From which all creation and order came

Upon the ground to set the boundaries

Of this Sacred Space

No evil may cross my mark.

Opening the circle or consecrating the sacred space

Note:

Many books and research work have given different names to the four corners of the circle. Once again note that if you are working in a temple you do not need to open and cast a circle for the temple space is sacred.

When you work with a shrine or your altar share your living quarters you can use a circle for protection.

I also noted with research that the olden Egyptian did not do "sacred circles".  They had a room or temple which was always consecrated. But in today's life I guess it is different if you do not have a room or a temple in your backyard.

I also think it does not really matter who you call as long as you believe in the protective power of the Deity which you call to protect in the area you assigning him/her to:

Calling The four sons of Horus

Lord Qebhsennuf       – East         – Powers of Air

Lord Duamutef           - South        - Powers of Fire

Lord Imsety                - West         - Powers of Water

Lord Hapi                   - North         - Powers of Earth

Calling the Deities in funerary practices as guardians:

Serket              - East

Isis                   - South

Neith                - West

Nephthys         - North

 Callig the Ennead:

Horus             - West       - Lord of the sunrise

Isis                 - South      - Lady of the Noonday

Hathor            - West       - Lady of the sunset

Osiris             - North       - Lord of the next world

 Calling the elemental gods:

Geb              - Earth

Shu               - Air

Tefnut           - Water

Ra                - Fire

Step 1:

With your wand you begin at the east point, then the south, then the west and then the north, returning from where you started saying at each cardinal point.

Step 2:

Point the wand into the direction of the point and say the invocation for the guardian Neteru (god/goddess).

 Step 3:

Afterwards saying the words light the appropriate candle at each point and walk to the next point. (I normally place a sacred water bowl at the west, a candle at the south, a sand bowl at the north and incense at the east to strengthen the corners.)

 Invoking the corners:

           Great God/Goddess/Lord/Lady/Spirit/Angel _________

Guardian of the (element)

Built the (direction) wall of our temple with the all of the divine’s white energy.

Spirits within this sacred space

look with favour on the ritual we are about to perform

or suffer the displeasure of the great gods.

This wall is cast

Let all which is good remain within and dispel all that is negative

(Remember you can sprinkle the salt in a circle form around you as a symbol of the protective wall which you are creating)

Note:

n        When you walk to each point visualise the god/goddess coming down and being there, visualize their energy enfolding your sacred area, blocking our all negativity and evil.

n        When the casting is done, you must visualise the white energy of the gods/goddesses filling your room and sacred space, feel them there with you, and visualize the four walls combining forming a circle around your sacred space completing your temple.

n        Feel the power of the protective corners, feel the power of the Netjeru/gods/goddesses/Deities fill the room blocking all that is negative and bringing good into your space.

 >>>>>>>>>>>>>*******<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Step 4:

When the circle is done turn around again facing each corner for a second and say:

The walls are cast

The space is made safe

All that is good dwell within

All that is positive dwell within

It is blessed with the power of grace

Let now the energy of those we call on come into this space

May our work here be to the honour of the gods

The Temple is build

Step 5:

Turn now and face the altar and say:

The heavens are opened

The earth is opened

The west is opened

The east is opened

The southern half of heaven is opened

The northern half of heaven is opened

The doors are opened

And the gates are throuwn wide open to Ra

As he cometh froth from the horizon

Light a candle and say:

The shining Eye of Horus cometh

The brilliant Eye of Horus cometh

It cometh in peace

It sendeth forth rays of light unto Ra in the horizon

And it destroyeth the powers of Set according to the decree

It leadeth them on and it taketh possession of him

And its flame is kindled against him

Its flame cometh and goeth about and bringeth adoration

It cometh and goeth about heaven in the train of Ra

Upon the two hands of thy two sisters, O Ra

The Eye of Horus liveth

Yea, Liveth within the great hall

The Eye of Horus liveth

Yea liveth!

Opening of the mouth:

Any statues that you are going to use in your temple should have the opening of the mouth performed on them to prepare them for use in your temple. If you cannot find or afford appropriate statues, you can use pictures of the deities as a vessel and gateway for them, and you should perform the opening of the mouth on the image in the same way as you would for a statue.
